for me, nostalgia is more about the reminder of how I felt about life back then. I was more positive and hopeful, and I wish I could steal back some of that optimism and confidence

It’s not really that we miss the past, it’s that we miss our younger selves. Nostalgia is painful to a point but also beautiful. I would hate to not feel nostalgia.

I totally agree. The nostalgic moments that I appreciate are the ones that remind me of happy childhood memories but I have zero degree of delusion about the past being somehow “better”.

One thing to consider is most everything we interacted with in the 70s and 80s was analog, mechanical, manual. Yes, computers came out in the 80s but still most everything was unplugged and mechanical

I don’t think nostalgia for the 80s means we’re automatically ignoring the negative aspects of that time period. I think part of the Gen X is that we are the last generation who remembers life

Everything was dirty but it was also empty. Cities, beaches, and attractions generally weren’t so crowded. You didn’t have to be filthy rich to afford water front property. Or to travel Europe.

I do agree 110%. Even worse,nostalgia walks us into rejecting the future and not enjoying it the same as we enjoy the past. We need to stop thinking and sinking on our past and start giving everyone else good child memories.
