@purelychickens: 🐔Dust bathing is so important to ward off bugs, keep feathers clean, cool down chickens, keep skin healthy, and of course for socialization (no one told Tim that part). 🐔Chickens will make their own dust bath after awhile (usually in your flower beds) But, here are some things you can add into a dust bath… 1. Dry soil 🤎 2. Dry course grit sand⌛️ 3. Peat moss 4. First Saturday Lime (this is our peat control of choice because it’s safer and more effective than DE & Barn lime). 🍋🟩 5. Dried herbs & flowers 🌿 🌸 6. Wood Ash (use with caution ⚠️ it can burn skin when it gets wet because it contains potash) 🪵 It really doesn’t have to be anything fancy! Dry dirt will make them so happy! PS…this video was recorded before we moved the coop! If you watched my stories a few days ago, you know it’s in its new spot. Stay tuned for the videos of how we predator proofed it. #chickens #dustbathing #dustbath #chickendustbath #chickencoop #miniflock

I read that quick Crete all purpose sand has silica in it which is bad for their upper respiratory tracts. What other options can we use?

This reminds me of the first time my chickens dust bathed. I knew they did it I just didn’t know what it looked like so when one flopped sideways in the dirt and started flailing I was concerned 😂

I have 3 teens that I'm integrating into my current flock of 4 hens. they all free range all day in the same area, but the teens won't go in the coop at night, and still sleep in the house/brooder.

Do you have a video on basic chicken behavior? I recently inherited 6, 1yr old chickens. Been following you for a while (before getting them) so they’re set up is great now!

where do you get the bags of sand? I've been using peat moss and they love it. but curious to try sand. I keep meaning to ask if you ever give them plain yogurt, it's so funny to watch😂

Also, I have 5 6week old pullets. One of the Cochin bantams we suspect is a rooster randomly started targeting & attacking my olive egger pullet. Have you experienced this?

Have you ever added Gardstar in it? The guy at the store told me that his wife does, but I can’t find anything online that agrees with that!
