we use a freezer thermometer that sends a warning if it drops under a specified temp, it's a nightmare when this happens

Mine does that even inside ac. We make sure the door stays locked. Not sure why, but it seems to work.

There are freezer alarms that can alert you if a door is left ajar or if the temperature starts rising. Some even have wifi. Amazon has some options.

You have to check appliance specs. Many aren’t made to be used in a garage. Due to the heat and cold.

so what my husband and I have found with this exact freezer is that if you keep it too close to the wall it'll overheat and not work well.

I know this is an older TT, but we have the same freezer (that we keep INDOORS) and it’s having the same problem. I don’t think it was the garage ☹️
