@earthnailsandtails: Follow for my Gardening Fundamentals Series! This might be the most anticipated day of the series! If there is one thing that you should invest in to have an abundant garden, it’s the soil. Adding compost to native soil can help to create better structure in heavy clay or sandy soils, but as mentioned in day 2 this will take time. Getting a soil sample analysis specifically for the vegetable garden will help you understand what needs to be done to create the ideal environment for your plants. Adding in compost will help to create “loamy” soil that veggie roots love. Giving them better access to moisture and nutrition. Creating soil for raised beds and containers is a labor of love and yields amazing results, even in the first year. I love a mixture of 50% compost, 30% coco coir and 20% perlite. A modification I’ve made from the classic “Mel’s mix”. I then add in Azomite for vitamins and minerals and a balanced fertilizer to provide nutrition. Taking the time to do this step properly is where people will see the biggest variance in results. If there is one step you don’t want to cheap out on, it’s this one! It is an investment worth making. Find even more info, and reels I’ve created in the past, in today’s stories! I’ll see you tomorrow for planting! 🌱 #gardening #gardeningtips #gardeningtip #gardentip #gardentips #backyardhomestead #backyardhomesteading #soil
