And on my flight they deplaned like 2 families of 4 because they had STILL let on more people than they should have on the flight, had us waiting for 3+ hrs on the tarmac and then made us all deplane

I don't get how they do both overbooking and have a standby queue. They shouldn't overbook, if someone cancels then allow people from the standby queue on. Why lose potential loyalty by overbooking

our family got kicked off all we got was airport food vouchers and a place to stay till the next flight no real compensation for the days we missed of our holiday and our accomodation there

This almost happened to me but I made a scene on the check in desk so they just printed my boarding pass and I was on my way😭🙏 Crashing out is the option

Fun fact, hotels do this same thing and if you’re ever “walked” to a different hotel than the one you booked that is the most likely reason. They oversold their rooms to get extra money from no shows.

Happened to me once. Specifically booked a seat. Because it was row 13 and they last minute changed planes but the new plane didn’t have a row 13

blessing in disguise because last time this happened to me they rebooked me on the next flight and gave me $4000 (3x the plane ticket as required by law)

lots of reasons ppl don't show - late, problems, etc. I personally have skipped out on paid flights bc of plans changing

If they do that they have to do everything to get you to your destination or pat you for the inconvenience. Per Federal DOT regulations.

If you’re in an EU country currently, they have better consumer protection laws than in U.S. and you might be able to get better compensation than you would in the U.S. May be worth looking in to

i was stuck in canada for 24 hours and had 5 cancelled flights and 48 hours total in travel time from barcelona to new jersey. on top of that they lost my checked bag 😭

Well they can, but if they bump you involuntarily then they have to pay you $750 - $1500 depending on how long you have to wait for the next one.
