Henry T. McCabe was a 32-year-old auditor for the Minnesota Department of Revenue, a respected and active member of the local Liberian community, and a family man with a wife and two children. The night of his disappearance: In the early morning of September 7, 2015, following a night of drinking with friends at a club, McCabe was allegedly dropped off at a gas station in Fridley, Minnesota, by his friend William Kennedy. When he was dropped off, McCabe had no keys to his home, as Kennedy held onto them. Another friend, Calvin Johnson, held onto McCabe's wallet, claiming he did so to prevent McCabe from buying more drinks. According to reports, McCabe was going through a difficult time. His wife, Kareen, was in California, and he had recently received a poor work review and had bounced a rent check. Disturbing voicemails: At 2:28 a.m. on September 7, McCabe's wife in California received a terrifying two-minute voicemail from his phone. The message contains what sounds like unintelligible noises, including growling and grunting. At the end, a voice, believed to be McCabe, is heard saying,

Disturbing voicemails: At 2:28 a.m. on September 7, McCabe's wife in California received a terrifying two-minute voicemail from his phone. The message contains what sounds like unintelligible noises, including growling and grunting. At the end, a voice, believed to be McCabe, is heard saying, "Stop it". He also left a similar voicemail for his brother. Kennedy initially told police that he dropped McCabe off at a SuperAmerica gas station. However, surveillance footage later showed that he had been dropped off at a different location—a Holiday gas station. Cell phone pings indicated that McCabe was last in the area of Creekview Park in New Brighton, several miles from where Kennedy said he dropped him off. A search for McCabe was initiated, but his body was not discovered until November 2, 2015, when a kayaker found him in Rush Lake in New Brighton. The lake was several miles from the gas station where he was dropped off. An autopsy by the Ramsey County medical examiner concluded that McCabe's death was a probable drowning. There were no signs of trauma or foul play on his body, including no gunshot wounds, despite what was heard in the voicemail The case remains an open investigation with many unresolved questions, including how McCabe ended up in the lake, why his final voicemail was so disturbing, and whether someone else was involved. McCabe's family remains skeptical that his death was accidental and believes foul play was involved.
