@art.history.rambles: This is ‘The Golden Rays’ by Herbert James Draper. Draper was known for his mytholgical narratives, but this is my favourite painting he’s done. In this simplistic still, a young girl stands with a mesmerised gaze at the dappled rays of light from a stained glass window. While others walk behind her unfazed, she takes a minute to take in the entracing light before her. Draper’s skilful illustration of the soft light is not only mesmerising to the young girl, but to us too.
