Loving the discourse lately of “stopping violence against women and girls” but this is still the reality we live in. And the further reality that police and other men will never take this crisis seriously. Going for a run in my local neighbourhood and taking a walking break (while on the phone to my partner) was enough to make this man stop in his tracks and harass me for 10+ minutes straight. I only stopped recording at the point that I did because I thought the worst was over and I wanted to leave before it turned physically aggressive, but it only got worse, and I was too afraid to start recording again. Hurling the most unimaginable, violent, abusive language, telling me what he would do to me, telling me to come and sit on his c***, it’s a shame I’m such a b**** cause he’d still f*** me. Full grown adults walking by and choosing not to intervene. Threatening me and intimidating me - all because I was walking in a park. Every woman knows that this is not an isolated incident. This is constant. It’s real. It’s terrifying. It’s never ending. We don’t walk away from scenes like this (if we’re lucky) - we walk into a world that facilitates and rewards this behaviour. The gaze, the violation, the harassment, the degradation, the fear. So ironic that the most watched tv show in the UK right now seeks to shed light on the issue but no one is paying attention. I’ve been debating whether or not to share this for my own safety but I’ve decided to do it because he doesn’t get to hide in anonymity. I will continue to speak up for myself and every other woman and girl who is affected by this every day of their lives. I am fearful of the world that we live in, but I will not be intimidated.
