Rory Vaden said there are 3 types of procrastination: classic procrastination, creative avoidance, and priority dilution. In classic procrastination, you knowingly put off what needs to be done, understanding you just don’t want to do it in that moment. Vaden said, “Creative avoidance is different, and this is something that people do as an art form. Creative avoidance is subconsciously creating things for yourself to do so that you can do those things as a means of feeling productive, but really it’s a giant scheme for avoiding doing the things you know you should be doing.” Creative avoidance might mean filling your time with menial tasks like organizing your closet or mowing your lawn, in place of addressing something more significant. Priority dilution is similar, but rather than creating tasks to take up your time, you simply deprioritize more important things in place of those less significant but perhaps more urgent ones. Regardless the type of procrastination you practice, the result is the same. It leaves that which is most important undone. Procrastination results in dreams dying, your body deteriorating, family suffering, and regret and stress mounting. The solution to procrastination is discipline. Mike Tyson said, “Discipline is doing what you hate to do but doing it like you love it.” It takes effort to know your priorities. Address the most important ones first. Exercise and take care of your health. Hug your kids and kiss your spouse. Put down your phone. Start writing your book. Call an old friend. Learn a new skill. Invest. Pray. Stretch. Meditate. It only takes a few minutes everyday to identify the most important things to do that day. So, stop procrastinating. Exercise discipline and start doing what you need to do now. #procrastination #discipline #priority #mindset @Rory Vaden @Mike Tyson
