Sure, in simple conversations, in person, when they understand your background, and when you can point to what you’re talking about, then they can most likely guess what you’re saying from context. But, what if there is no context? What if you need to teach someone something they don’t already know? Or what if you’re on the phone, and can’t point to what you’re talking about? Not every conversation is “Hi! I’d like the strawberries, please!” Plain and simple: tones don’t matter…in conversations that don’t matter. Also, I’m astounded how often I have to point this one out: the goal of conversation is not to make your listener guess what you mean. Speaking clearly means to ensure that they DON’T have to guess what you mean. Agree? Like and follow!
