𝐀 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐞'𝐬 𝐋𝐨𝐧𝐠 𝐉𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐒𝐚𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐲 – 𝐌𝐞𝐞𝐭 𝐕𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐞 On Tuesday, the 3rd of September, we received several calls about a stray collie spotted in the Aughacashel area. For days, the poor creature was seen roaming the fields, sleeping in drains, and hiding in whatever safe space he could find. The local community rallied together, doing everything they could to catch this frightened dog, though he was too scared to trust their kind hands. Yet, despite the fear in his heart, they never gave up on him. The wonderful people of Aughacashel made sure he was fed and looked after, trying desperately to offer him a better life. Traps were set, but in a poignant act of mistrust and uncertainty, this terrified collie chose to sleep beside the trap, unable to believe there could be safety inside. Days passed, and over the weekend, a call came in from a kind local who reported the collie had started lingering near their home. They had given him refuge in their shed, and our team was quick to respond. Finally, this lost soul was caught—not by force, but by the quiet patience of someone who cared. Our warden found him, his body wrapped in nothing but a crude rope around his neck, the only care he had likely ever known. No chip, no collar, just a life of neglect. We have named him Vinnie. Vinnie is now safe in our center, where he will begin the long process of learning to trust humans again. It won’t be easy, but he is with us now, where love and kindness will be his daily companions. Like the seven other collies we currently care for, Vinnie will probably spend months here, waiting for the day he finally finds his forever home. Collies, for all their loyalty and brilliance, are often overlooked. Bred in numbers, but rarely given the homes they so deserve. But Vinnie’s rehabilitation—like the care of all the animals in our shelter—requires time, resources, and love. We are committed to giving him the best chance at a new life, but we can’t do it without you. We also urge you, if you know anything about Vinnie’s past or his owners, please contact us at 071 964 8300. And please, if you can’t provide a home for a dog, consider neutering or spaying your animals. No more dogs like Vinnie should have to roam the fields, sleeping in the cold, waiting for a kindness that might never come. Vinnie’s story is still being written, but with your help, we can ensure that his next chapter is one of love, safety, and a family that will never let him go.
