My grandmother "unschooled" my dad and his siblings. He couldn't read or write his own name until he was 9. Never fully finished a year of school in his whole life. Had to fully educate himself as a teenager. He made sure my brother and I went to a good school and got a good education because he refused to repeat the cycle. He's always encouraged my love of learning, and I'm so thankful for that today.
