The re-recordings really grew on me and I almost like them better. They added much more life to the world and background in the re-recordings. Plus, the more listens, the more the artists get paid.

My favorite take is that he wasn't prideful, or even really angry; he wanted Polyphemus to know he hadn't hurt "nobody", he'd hurt a real person, with real friends.
