It should be a rule that first year teachers can’t be asked to do or allowed to do anything extra (non-paid). You get wildly overwhelmed before you even realize it’s happening.

This should be policy - that new teachers can’t sign up for anything in their first 2-3 years at least. If you must, volunteer for the easiesttttt thing, and be sure to give the impression that it is

I always hate people telling me what I should/shouldn't do. Better advice... don't feel obligated to volunteer for activities that don't bring you joy! If you choose to coach a team! Good on you 👏

Every campus I’ve been to there was an expectation of “campus leadership”. If you weren’t sponsoring a club then they would find a committee for you.

35+ years in education, just retired. Perfect example of why I retired. Find one activity/club outside the classroom that will not overwhelm you and it will make a difference with student behavior I
