I say "arrigato gozaimasu" after each transaction and it's amazing how many people light up that I say thanks. Some will try to say thanks in English or others giggle and say it back. it's great.

I mean another thing for the sunglasses is probably because creeps where them to look at people. So the masks still exposes not only where you’re looking, but looking into someone’s eyes tells you

Ah nah for me as a Japanese, we say thanks like too many times and don’t wear sunglasses just bc our black eyes aren’t actually sensitive to sun…and ofc some do wear them

Not wearing sunglasses is insane, no wonder so many have eye issues… UV is no joke. I visited Tokyo, but I saw many wearing sunglasses.

Yep, I did ALL of these! I hate when people stare at me so the sunglasses help me not to feel awkward. And Japanese folks were waving and taking pictures of us zipping in the go-karts. Yep, TY🤣

I do not care if only foreigners wear sunglasses…it is toooo damn bright not to lol. Though I didn’t have mine the other day but had my umbrella so I used that for shading my eyes like the Japanese

For sunglasses it prob has to do with the eyes. When you wear a mask it’s cuz there’s a pandemic or it’s flu season or you’re sick, so you’re trying not to get others sick but people can still see
