@wheelaroundtheworld: Flying wheelchair disaster leaving Tokyo. 🇯🇵♿️✈️🥹 My flight from Tokyo to South Korea with Asiana Airlines was a nightmare. I spent almost two and a half hours at the check-in counter, convinced I wouldn't be able to fly. I even looked into boats to Korea. Crazy as it sounds, this is still the reality for people with disabilities travelling. But this post has some good news—I ACTUALLY GOT TO FLY. Many people who can't advocate for themselves would be left stranded at the airport with no help or support. The video is long and painful to watch, but I thought it would be good to share to give insight into what it can be like for people with disabilities flying, in the hope that things can one day get better. I did all my research and had all my required documentation with me. The batteries are safe for travel and internationally approved to take on all airlines in the world. I've flown on many planes with no issues, so this is clearly an issue with some airlines, like Asiana Airlines. These batteries aren't for toys or computers; they belong to mobility devices that help people with disabilities live independent lives. What needs to change to make travel better and easier for people with disabilities? If you have experience flying with a disability or ideas on how airlines can improve, please share in the comments. #wheelchair #travelfail #airline #japan #accessibletravel

A lot of Asian airlines have different rules / laws with lithium, i know it’s frustrating, I’ve had to abandon lithium before. They should def be able to make exceptions faster based on circumstances

Perth airport were like this with my ostomy bag. At first they said I might not be able to take it on the plane and I was like trust me you want me to wear it on the plane 😂

I understand the frustration, and there really should be some standard protocols for batteries with mobility aids on aircrafts. However as I wprk with batteries I also know that if there's something

We had the same problems with Jetstar. Even with pre approval of the battery! It was a pretty pathetic situation for my MIL! She was so embarrassed.

You have forms already filled out. How is this happening. Would a Dr letter help for next time? I struggle with my son's oxygen bottles too.

Living in Japan for 8 years now and rule compliance is THE most frustrating thing. If someone makes a mistake they are severely punished by seniors (left out, transfered, etc) so no one want to do it

I’ve had this happen to me when I was also in a wheelchair. Before going to these airports I had printed the avaiation laws regarding disabilities that ALL carriers must abide.

International flights shouldn’t have different rules! It used to happen to me all the time. I would start at point A and be allowed to fly, but at the layover in point B suddenly different rules. 😩

Whilst we totally understand the frustration, (as cabin crew) there are certain rules because lithium, they cause the most fires onboard (with air pressure & other elements) and with limited resorces

The way I’d be like “okay so ask the person sitting next to me to be the one the battery is ‘assigned’ to if each passenger only gets one”

Jetstar at Narita airport took me 1.5 hours to check in and my wheelchair wasn’t manual. I was in tears in the end. How is this process still so bad?

Where I live it is banned for powered wheelchairs or power assist devices to go on buses... even if the battery is not lithium iron and is safe for air plane travel 😭 it is such a shame that travel

well each airline have their own policy in regards to wheelchairs for batteries. one batteries can be taken max 300w. but if 2 are taken it should be max 160wh i believe for 1.
