Not everyone who speaks two languages can be a translator during a presentation. So, it makes sense with sign language. Adding that you also have to use your hands.

I speak fluent Spanish but I took a translation class while I was studying abroad. The interpreting section was SO hard! We had to model like the U.N. Interpreters do!

People truly just do not understand how complex the process is. Not to mention the lag time that is required. So many processes going on all at once when simultaneously interpreting.

My mom used to translate for phone calls! To this day, she still “speaks in sign language.” And describes sounds & noises in detail as she had to do in hearing to deaf phone calls ❤️

I don’t believe people understand that ASL is a completely different league from what we speak. It’s like apples and oranges and I hope it changes
