Leaving VanLife to FLY: Cat Sitters, Van Safety & More Hot take: leaving the van to fly is one of my least favorite parts about van life. Back when I lived in an apartment and worked my corporate job, I could pack up, call someone to come watch the cats & uber to the airport… but now… it takes a LOT more logistics. Now, I need to find a safe place to keep my house while I am gone, a new pet sitter that allows cats in their home in each place I am in, find a suitcase, a ride to the airport etc etc etc. So here is everything I do: Van Safety & Parking: • If it’s a short trip, I will park at the airport. Some say this is risky (and I do get really nervous)… but I have left it at Seattle, San Diego, Calgary & Portland and its been FINE. • If it's a long trip, honestly… 9/10 times, I will drive back to my dad's house. That typically means I will have to drive between 4-10 hours. Which in my opinion is worth it. • Note: depending on the trip, if I am not going back to my dad's, I will get an airbnb/hotel to get organized, shower & pack before my flight. It's just SO much easier. Cat Sitters: • If it’s a short time away, I will use the app Rover to find a cat sitter in the area I am in. Now… I have had amazing experiences with rover and some pretty terrible ones… so you really need to do your research. • If it's a long trip, honestly, I will drive back to my dad's house to bring Atlas to his long time cat sitter. Random Note: if I have an early flight and I am leaving my van at the airport… I will just sleep in my van at the airport lot. LMK if you have any questions! #vanlife #solovanlife Solo woman van life Van life how to Van life with cats Van life
