Weird issue. I’ve lived 70 years in Alberta and just put up with the 10 hot days per year that we get

You contradicted yourself. Should it be mandatory for landlords to provide AC? But many tenants can't afford the electricity to run them. How would that work?

if it is illegal to turn off heat to a home in the winter, there should be a legal maximum for homes as well

If only there was a program in which citizens pay a portion of their income in order to pay for public services, And where those that earn more pay more. Wouldnt that be nice

I think education on keeping a home cool should be mandatory. Baffles me that my neighbors home is 5-10 degrees warmer than mine in the summer (no AC involved).

While I definitely agree with you, I wonder if our electical grid could handle that much added. The UCP would have to allow those large renewable projects (horror for them). 1/1

Since we're probably not going to do anything about the climate crisis, making it surviviable for the population is the next bare minimum, and sadly probably another one we will fail to meet because of capitalism

In that there also needs to be discussions about how to reduce the heat outside. Areas with more concrete and fewer trees are warmer, and wealth is a component of that discussion.

I am all for AC as a right, but would the tenants be able to afford the large increase in power for window units? In Alberta that can be an about $150 to $200 a unit/month.

Been saying this for years. Albertans have had record high temps for years now and nothing has been done to help with air conditioning. It needs to become law that all rentals have air conditioning.

I still don’t understand this in Paris France most places do not have AC as they believe it makes u sick (there is evidence) and their power grid can’t sustain that power load.

so the city needs to put in bylaws to have central cooling or AC. the issues shouldn't be on the landlord vs the city, which could be doing more things like planting trees too.

BC has proposed a new building code that requires at least one area in any abode to not exceed temperatures of 27°C. And that was directly because of the 619 people who died.
