But Astarion in DnD Lore is an Elf. (There is a Magic card of Astarion, def. an elf vamp) So he had to be an elf in the game to stay true to the lore.

I do wish the companions had more representation though. Why couldn’t Gale have been a gnome mage we have 3 humans, 2 half elves, a Gith, an elf, a drow, and a tiefling
