Being diagnosed with shingles was definitely not on my 2025 bingo card. Like, out of all the things I thought I’d be dealing with—this wasn’t it. 🙃 Now, if you don’t know, shingles is not just “a bad rash.” It’s literally stress showing up on your body like, “Hey girl, I warned you… but you ain’t listen.” And let me drop a little education here: stress-induced shingles can have long-term effects, and research shows shingles can even increase your risk of having a stroke. Yeah. A whole stroke. So this isn’t just “take some Tylenol and keep it moving.” This is serious. What really trips me out is that I thought I was managing my stress. I was like, “Oh, I’m good—I took a trip to Hawaii, got some sun, sipped a drink, came back refreshed.” But clearly, the damage was already done. The signs were there: •	What I thought was a painful sunburn on my back (spoiler: not a sunburn). •	Migraines daily—so bad I was hiding from light and sound. •	Fatigue on another level. I’m normally up at 4:35 AM, but lately? 8, 9, sometimes 10 o’clock in bed. Totally not me. And listen, I tried to brush it off. We just moved two kids into college dorms, my youngest two are back in school, my husband and I both travel for work, my mom is battling cancer, and life is just… lifing. I told myself I was just a little tired. But nah. My body was screaming at me. Here’s the bigger picture, especially for my Black women: we have got to talk about stress. Yes, eating right and exercising are important. But sis, if we don’t learn how to manage stress, none of that matters. The gag is—sometimes we don’t even realize we’re stressed, because we’ve been operating in survival mode for so long it feels normal. And then one day your body decides to cash that check your brain has been writing. So yeah, shingles was my wake-up call. And honestly, it’s making me rethink everything—like maybe it’s time to invest in some real help instead of trying to juggle all these systems and processes alone. If you’ve got tips on how you manage stress (or if you know a bomb virtual assistant 👀), drop them in the comments. And please, keep me lifted in prayer because I’m slowly realizing I don’t actually know how to rest. And that, my friends, is the real work I’ve got to do. #shingles #womenover30 #blackwomen #blackwomenoftiktok #fyp
