Here in Nebraska when the sirens go off we step outside looking for the tornado, but If you are not used to that sound I can see how it can be scary to you

Isn't that what all tornado sirens sound like? I think having varied/different sirens would cause confusion and reduce saftey.

Amen. I moved in 1991. We never get tornadoes — so 2 nights in a row, we needed the sirens.
