@tasandthewelshies: My horse has already been taught how to walk at my shoulder/ slightly behind when working at liberty, which makes this exercise slightly easier. I've also trained him to recognise a pointer finger as a "target" and to follow that target as a little helping hand! I love doing this exercise, as your horse is focusing on you, being in tune with your energy and your steps! It is also great in a physical sense. It helps teach young horses where their feet are, encouraging them to walk "properly" it also is amazing for flexibility and engaging the hind end.
