My baachan (grandma in Japanese) jokes around that I put miso in everything 😂😭 she thinks it’s funny that I use it in so much haha It is a little unconventional in Japan to use it in sweets. Miso paste is used primarily to make miso soup, or as a seasoning in marinades, dressings, sauces, etc. But its saltiness brings out such a wonderful flavor in sweets! Maple Miso Butter Cookies Makes ~10-12 cookies Ingredients: For Cookie Base: * 1 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed * 1 cup granulated sugar * 2 eggs * 2 3/4 cups flour * 1 tablespoon cornstarch * 1 teaspoon baking powder For Frosting: * 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed * 1/4 cup white miso paste * 1 tablespoon maple syrup * 2 cups powdered sugar * 1 teaspoon vanilla extract * Chocolate for shavings garnish (optional) Instructions: 1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a baking sheet. 2. In a large bowl, beat the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs until well combined. 4. Gradually add the flour, cornstarch, baking powder, and vanilla extract, mixing until fully incorporated. Chill the dough in the fridge for about 1 hour. 5. Roll the chilled dough into 4-inch balls and place them about 1 inch apart on the prepared baking sheet. 6. Bake for 11-12 minutes or until slightly golden. Allow the cookies to cool completely. 7. Meanwhile, prepare the frosting. In a large bowl, beat together the butter, miso paste, powdered sugar, and maple syrup until smooth and creamy. 8. Once the cookies have cooled, pipe or spread the frosting onto each cookie. Sprinkle with chocolate shavings for an extra touch of flavor (optional). #chocolate #dessert #miso #japanese #asian #sweets
