also from experience I’d recommend getting a professional trainer who has dogs who do gun dog work as they know how to work with spaniels better than anyone else 🐾

start getting her used to loud and unexpected noises if she’s nervous about loud noises and find a toy she is obsessed with I recommend a waterproof dummy (currently being sold aldi for £2.99) or from pets at home !

We do some retrieval work with Harley. Started off with a ball for recall, moved over to a weighted duck and now working on her staying by our side before she can go get it.

my do was a gun dog and worked for 5 years then went on to be a pest control dog. it was the best thing she ever dud, she is soooo well trained and gave her that release of energy

I would see a proper gundog trainer that works and trials their dogs. Where are you based? They will want you to adjust some of her current habits though, they won’t allow bird chasing 😅

I’ve been doing a bit of gundog with my cocker spaniel- lots of you tube. He’s 6 months and great recall. Just learning emergency stop 😃

I do gundog training with our working cocker, which is in a group & laid back (we're not going to work him)but we've found it to be great 😊I also do sniffer training with him and he loves this too 😀

Uk sniffer dog! Guy that funded the company is an inspiration. You can find them on Facebook worth a look. They do sets at crufts every year and the dogs he personally has works different agencies

I’ve taken both of my labs to gun dog training and the basics stand them in good stead to be well mannered and well behaved (most of the time 🤣)

start of small, work on small retrieves then gradually get bigger. make sure heel work and sit and wait are mastered before. she might get it first try if not be patient, always mix up the reward

my cocker didn't do well in the group classes and I think for a beginner it can be a bit much, she did great when we did 1 2 1s.
