I have it, read it as a kid. I've read it to my daughter, she's 5 months . When I do, I tell her that real friends will accept her as she is and sharing is not giving away what makes her special.

I was in kindergarten in 2010 (just as context) this was still a big thing. I had a copy, my teacher read it too us, and I saw as like a play production like 2 or 3 times as a field trip

I always hated this book as an empath because the fish got told the only way people would like him was to give up peices of himself to others and what made him unique 🥺

The book is not about sharing—it’s about not being a jerk. The other fish first invite rainbow fish to play with them, but he just swims away bc he thinks he’s better than them.
