I mess with my DM by adding inconsequential details to my character that affect nothing but throw him off. Like in a Star Wars camapign when I mentioned I had a distant cousin in the Jedi order.

honestly, dumping plot changing lore on the DM in the middle of a session as a surprise is like your charakter "suddenly" dying as a surprise by the DM.

For me it was the opposite - I didn’t realise my character was the child of the villain and the NPC we had for a while in our party until my DM was yelling it at me “WHY CANT YOU SEE IT”

i think *certain* lore should be hush hush if it’s small and simple. but the lore elaborate and bigger things definitely need to run by the DM.

I didn’t hide it from my DM, but my DM full on didn’t read my backstory and found out my character was SA’d by their mentor ✨after the mentor captured her in a net cause she wouldn’t go back with him✨
