i don’t tend to talk about this too often on my social media accounts as they are ‘fitness based’ but i think by now we know that my account is more than that… it’s an ongoing reflection of my life and personal growth🤍 i am also aware that i have a great deal of privilege of being to reach 100,000s of people. it would be a disservice to myself to not raise awareness on harder but more important conversations, such as sexual abuse. i personally was taught to only be scared of men i didn’t know. i had no idea that harm could come just as easy from some of the closest people around you. because of this, i questioned myself - was it my fault? maybe they didn’t mean to do it? but others have been abused worse than me? these are all things that stopped me from speaking up and i had to deal with it on my own for many years. luckily, my mum found out (by chance) and it forced me to open up about it. however, my story got rejected by others involved and i tried to move on and forget it ever happened. 5 years later, it got brought up again and since then i’ve been in therapy which has helped a tremendous amount. yes speaking up about it all was everything i had feared, but it did change things: the abuse stopped and i wasn’t put in the same situations again although i won’t go into specific details and this is quite hard to share with so many people, the idea that it could help one person by encouraging them to speak to someone they view as a safe person makes it that bit easier. you don’t have to be alone in this ❤️
