I’m due to have cosmetic surgery on NHS, required because of cancer surgery. I wonder what HR will say. They were great with cancer treatment

Where I worked a guy died on shift because he couldn’t afford to have time off they wouldn’t pay him sick pay after surgery. When he was found he couldn’t be revived.

The issue is that most HR aren’t capable or qualified to decide whether ‘elective’ procedures are due to medical need or not. So best off not declaring and just giving in fit notes.

No they can’t stop you having time off for surgery & if your dr signs you off with a fit note that’s all that’s needed.

Surely they need to give HR a doctors not if it's more than 5 days. You can't self certify for 6 weeks.

I mean, the point is, it shouldn’t matter. If you’re giving them notice that’s all they need. If it was an emergency they wouldn’t have that priveledge
