While this may seem like a quick fix, there‘s no guarantee that it will actually resolve the underlying issue. The truth is that when we constantly adjust our standards, the other person has no incentive to change their behavior. Remember, when our standards are malleable, their behavior won‘t be. If we want things to improve, something has to change—whether it‘s their behavior, our standards, or the status of the relationship. But if we decide that it‘s our standard that needs to change, then we must ask ourselves whether doing so will truly lead to our happiness.
