Being a people pleaser is bad for both your mental and physical health. I used to be one, and I'm here to share my story and how it affects people. My mom taught me to always take care of everyone else first, which continued into adulthood and even shaped my career in HR because I wanted to help people. The problem with people pleasing is that you put others before yourself. You never say no, which allows people to take advantage of you. This leads to not setting boundaries, having no time, energy, or resources for yourself, and eventually burning out. When you crash, you either take a break or start pushing back against everyone, sometimes overcompensating by saying no to everything. I used to think taking time for yourself was selfish, but now I see it differently. If you always say yes to others, you won't have time to take care of yourself. Think of it like this: if your cup is full, you can pour into others' cups. But if it's empty, you can't help anyone, including yourself. Not setting boundaries makes you lose yourself, your self-respect, and your values because you're not standing up for what you believe in. You do it because you want to be liked. However, when you start advocating for yourself, setting schedules, and saying no, the right people will appreciate the real you. Some people might leave, but they weren't meant for you anyway. The ones who stay will support you and your goals. By taking care of your mental, physical, spiritual, and financial well-being, you'll attract the right people into your life. At 41, I was unhappy, unhealthy, and dissatisfied with my job and relationships. Once I started setting boundaries and advocating for myself, everything changed. The people who fell away made room for those who truly supported me. If you're empathetic and always taking care of others but feel drained and unhappy, it's time to change. Set boundaries, lay out your goals, and go after them. Stop worrying about pleasing everyone; it's harmful to you and the people around you. Advocate for yourself, and you'll become your best self, able to truly help others. Let me know if you've gone through a similar journey or are struggling with people pleasing. #PeoplePleaser #SelfCare #MentalHealth #Boundaries #SelfRespect #AdvocateForYourself #Empowerment #SelfLove #PersonalGrowth #HealthyRelationships #SayNo #SelfWorth #LifeBalance #PrioritizeYourself #Authenticity #WellBeing #SupportSystem #SelfImprovement #InnerStrength #SelfAdvocacy #OvercomingPeoplePleasing #BeYourself #MentalWellness #EmotionalHealth #personaldevelopment
