In case you missed what transpired in my stories yesterday morning… After losing Finnegan to old age in August, and then Sholto in September from a brain aneurysm, I knew I needed to keep going and rescue another horse from slaughter. This big Belgian is coming home from a killpen in Texas, meant to ship out for processing on 10/27. He is safe and coming home to Axe & Root Homestead instead. Thank you to everyone who recommended horse auctions, pens, sanctuaries and organizations for me to browse. If you’re looking, there are some great rescues out there. And loads more where this guy is coming from at Last Chance Direct Ship horses on Facebook. They provide a list of trans-continental transportation companies upon purchase. Note these are horses that need rest and recovery before work.
