Even if you read Longstreet’s journals, he even disagreed with Lee’s calls at Gettysburg and round out to battle with the hope he would die with his men. He was a leader of men not just soldiers.

The Union Calvary engaged in running battles from the 5th on.If infantry could have followed up with just two corps they would have cornered Lee’s back at Potomac before bridge was built.
