My FIL used the "give him to me for a week and you'll have a different kid". I called his bluff and asked him when he wanted him. He was too scared to keep him overnight until recently (he's 8).

My son went through the same struggles. I provided him with the foods he was able to eat, and helped him to try new foods. He’s thirty three now, and is able to eat a much wider variety of foods.

Exactly. And the worst is when your own family shame you for not “making your child eat.” My sister-in-law told me that if my daughter lived in their house for 1 week “she would be eating everything.”

this is so true. my school called CPS on is because my child suffered from ARFID before she was diagnosed. I tried everything. even didn't feed her for 3 days I really tried. she ended up 1/2

This account has opened up a world of possibilities for my little brother. He shows many similar symptoms that can possibly explain his many struggles. He has a child psychiatrist appointment next summer and my mother plans to ask about ARFID on top of the other disorders she believes he displays symptoms of. Thank you guys for educating people!

I have my kid take one bite. I've told him he doesn't have to finish it and can even spit it out if he doesn't like it but he has to try. I try to make it as safe as possible and give him time.
