As someone who attended undergrad at a HBCU from 2009-2013, I’ve NEVER heard of the clapping. Must be a new kid thing

I THINK it stems from restaurant culture. Early 2000s when ppl would drop flatware/dishware usually it would be followed by cheers or the Greek expression “opa!”

I never understand the clapping when cup drops, but I just clapped 🤷🏽♂️😂 Also, at TnSU, we had Court Yard Wednesdays while I was there. Dont know if they still do it.
