@atpscience: How do you stop reflux? A recent scientific paper investigated the role of diet in the cause of Reflux/GERD (Gastroesophageal reflux disease). Interestingly, the answer isn't as simple as you might think. It was initially hypothesised that eating acid-rich foods would exacerbate things, however, some drinks with high acidity did not induce reflux symptoms. Similarly, others with low acidity did (tomato juice), indicating that it's not strictly acidity that plays a role in reflux/GERD. [1] There are strong correlations between reflux symptoms and the following: 👉 Alcohol [2] 👉 High-fat diets (fried or greasy foods) [3] 👉 High carbohydrate diets [4] Some Ways to Reduce Reflux: 👉 Dietary adjustments (e.g. reducing coffee or alcohol intake) 👉 Listen to your body and identify trigger foods 👉 Managing a healthy weight 👉 Sleeping with your head elevated 👉 Smaller, more frequent meals As always, this information is not designed to diagnose, treat, prevent, or cure any condition and is for informational purposes only. If acid reflux affects your day-to-day, please discuss this with your healthcare professional.
