My response to that is, no they don’t know it, you think they do and they don’t. In my experience when you teach a dog something clearly and with enough solid repetitions. They Weill obey 99% of the time. It is very rare that an animal who is literally bread to be loyal would just totally disregard you on purpose without serious fault in the training. Your dog “knowing something” is not the same as them having done it in the past. Knows to me implies your dog has a deep understanding of the command in as many contexts and environments as possible. The best way, in my mind to tell if your dog knows something is to command switch (what I’m doing in the video). If your dog doesn’t have this ability it means they know what you’ve taught them in a specific context.
