@performancetransmission: Replying to @trd.rari the tech school that I went to was not an ASEP program and we worked on everything. We had equipment that was back from 1980 and I could do more things then in school then schools provide now. It takes everything in this analysis summary for the new technician to know an understand and what it takes along with interning at a dealership while going to school to get both hands on and book experience. That is not just technical information and diagnostic and repairs at the trade schools, but hands-on real world scenarios from independent and dealers shops. @@Chris_MF_Craig##mechanicsoftiktok

I believe that the importance of each aspect in the survey would change as a tech develops. Documentation should be learned as skills develop, I wouldn’t hammer down on it in the first stages.

what I tell the young ones that want to get into this trade . you have to have a passion for it or it will be the definition of insanity

That’s an interesting part of my report, the leadership issue potentially identified that you referenced. Leadership, I keep saying it’s the key and my research may indicate that I’m correct!

I did ASEP. Sponsoring dealer kept me thru school, no open bays when I was done. My next job started me as a lube tech while I proved my worth. Wasn’t long b4 I was doing normal work in my own bay.

Can definitely tell you’ve done you prioritized your training. For doing this for 10 years, you’re insanely knowledgeable. I’ve been in the industry for 18 years, but I’ve been on the independent side of the industry versus specializing in a particular brand.

I work in the industry but don’t do the type of work I do at home. If I was a mechanic every day I’d grow to hate it and I know that. I’m a Service advisor.

I learned on the job, six years later, I've done semis, dump trucks, heavy equipment, and now a dealership doing hybrids. long way from starting at a junkyard

👏 Bingo, And there you go folks. Leadership needs to understand a technician with fundamentals out of College or has certifications do not start at the lube rack, needs a seasoned technician to grow

That is exactly what happened with me. My hobby of cars with my dad turned into hatred for working professional. Thankfully it all worked out.
