Also applies for wintersports helmets even not used they deteriorate… so check the manufacturing date if possible and never buy used.

it still works kinda but not to the level you want bare head is 0% protection a helmet new would be 80% because you would still get some injury here and there and a broken or fallen helmet is

The 5 year replacement advice is born to ensure the elasticity of the materials by full use in daylight , chemical structures get less bounded by uv light , chemical contact , oxidation etc

I half agree. my hard hat has little use/UV exposure, but is required to be replaced compared to someone who uses it every day.

fell a couple times during horseriding, so glad it was always my back getting the smack and not my helmet becs those things are EXPENSIVE😭😭
