@mia.kovaliv: What’s the best area to stay in Palermo, Sicily? 1. Politeama- the most expensive, beautiful and save area to stay in. On Via della Libertà you will find high end shops and fine dining eateries. 10 mins walk to all the attractions and direct bus to Mondello beach right in the area. If you stay in any other area and get around by public transport, in order to go to the beach, you have to go to Politeama. 2. Kalsa, Old Town (Centro Storico)-sec nice area, all the attractions 3-4 mins walk from each other, the same with shops and restaurants. Avoid Via Maqueda-the central street in downtown, as its very crowded, not that safe if you stay directly on that street. (5-7 mins walk from Via Maqueda could be a nice stay, as Kalsa is a very big area). 3. Mondello - if you want to stay on the coast, but prices are quite high. 20 mins bus ride will take you to the main attractions, shops and restaurants. at Mondello, there are not so many restaurants compare to the city. Finally, my personal recommendation is Piazza Independenza (Independence Square)-quite, clean, close to downtown-15 mins walk. On Corso Calatafimi you will find cloth shops, a supermarket and other good quality shops.
