I tried to join the PSL in Austin, but it seems like all they do is organize protests and have readings and THATS IT!

I agree, movements have to start from the bottom up. Can’t just run for the highest office in the country and expect results.

I will say that it is gatekept like crazy. I was an "open search" for a position on one of my City's boards that I qualified for and sent in an email as requested. And another. And another. I got a reply saying that to be in that open citizen position, I have to be nominated by the mayor. (And it was suggested I wouldn't get it because I'm not a Homeowner in the area)

We get excited trying to complete step 10 and don’t understand that we’re like not even done with step 1

I live in a small town in Michigan. I cannot remember EVER seeing a third-party candidate run for a local office. 3rd parties want to do top-down instead of bottom-up.

I think there are quite a few DSA people in small offices. However it’s tricky because small chapters often have too few people to mount a winning campaign. Small biz owners can often trounce them.

Not saying it can't be done but curious how this sort of thing is affected by who has resources to run. Thinking particularly of the time!

I live in a smaller suburban area of SEATTLE and it's CRAZY how many seats are won by default bc only one person is on the ticket

I 100% agree, although, these seats are not uncontested, most voters in the areas you're talking about vote along the party and if you want to campaign to actually change that, you need money, lots

you make very good points. kind of blew my mind a little bit. been watching our local school board fall apart n bring the district with it over the last year and this had never even occurred to me.

This has to be the focus. How do we find these seats? I’m not even sure which of these positions exist.

I will give my local DSA credit. The last meeting I attended included a vote to endorse someone for a local school board.
