@cbcsasknews: Blue-green algae is a major worry for the Saskatchewan Health Authority this summer because of the danger it poses to people and animals going swimming in lakes. The province said the algae is cyanobacteria, capable of producing toxins that can cause liver damage, gastroenteritis, and in rare cases death, if ingested. One survey found 40 per cent of the 110 lakes tested had toxin levels above the World Health Organization's threshold for drinking water. About 15 per cent of the lakes were deemed to be too risky to touch, and four per cent were considered acutely toxic. (Reporting: Shlok Talati) | #swimming #lake #bluegreenalgae #Sask #yxe #CBCNews
