@livjowen: River is going through a phase where he is hitting/pinching when he gets upset, which is completely normal. But just because it’s normal, it doesn’t make it ok. When he hits, I immediately stop his actions and show him that we be ‘so soft’ instead. Sometimes that’s all the reminder he needs. Other times, he’s too upset to listen and continues to try to hit. Those are the times that a little time out is needed. Time for him to calm down enough that I can then explain to him how to be ‘so soft’. When he’s done hitting, and he’s ready to be nice, I encourage communication between us to help him feel understood and validated.
