Didn’t realize that! So basically they’re a payday loan company but on a larger scale!!

Honestly 20% seems like a hell of a deal.

Is JG Wentworth supposed to lose money and just do a one to one trade? They are taking the risk…as we’ve seen money ten years from now is not worth the same amount as today. Nothing wrong here.

How do people not realize this? How do you think JG Wentworth makes money? Do you think they give you a million up front just to get paid back 1 million over 10years??!?!? 😂

Matt :
In the case of $1 million if you take the discount rate of, say, $800k and invest that in the stock market you’d get back to $1 million in value in under 4 years on average, doesn’t seem that absurd

all I learned is that they charge way less than I thought they did

I get what you’re saying and agree that it’s not the best idea but losing 20 percent to vs waiting 30 years isn’t terrible.

Wait…aren’t lawyers fees/court costs and whatever else usually upwards to 40% of a settlement and deducted before the payment is made? If so, maybe saved money skipping the lawyers in his pocket.

I mean, it's like the cash trade off if you win the lottery. that's the price of getting a big lump sum of cash

So if I’m getting 1k/month for 30yrs, that’s $360k, you walk away w/288k upfront. Not a bad deal at all.

Preach! Work for an annuity company. We can’t tell them not to so we painfully watch people do this all the time

Worked with a guy, he sold his structured settlement, he got 40% of what he would have gotten. But, he needed money for his lawyer. 40% is better than 15 years in the pen.

if the individual that has the structured settlement passes before the full amount is paid out does that absolve the payer from paying in full?

Working in PI we used to get so frustrated when clients would get pre-settlement loans. 😅
