The truth about VC is unless you have the money to buy in as an LP, you need years of experience getting your hands dirty operationally so you make sense as a SME for an invest team

I think you miss some things here. You develop fundamental investment skills (i.e., build an investment thesis), some skills also overlap with mgmt consulting such as market size calcs, evaluate GTMs
