⚠️Trigger Warning: Raw and Loud Birth ⚠️ So many women come to me thinking that experience is the one that they are automatically walking into when they think about an #unmedicatedbirth when that’s not necessarily true. While I don’t know this mama nor have enough context to truly comment on how hard she probably was working up to that point - I wanted to share my thoughts on the clip that has been circulating on the internet. Before understanding how birth COULD look like, this was the image that usually popped into my head. While this isn’t a bad thing nor is it wrong if this is how you give #birth, I also believe it’s important to be clear that all mamas deserve to know that with small shifts, birth can be a calm, positive and manageable experience. For that reason, I want to share… ‼️3 THINGS THAT EVERY MAMA NEEDS TO KNOW FOR A NATURAL BIRTH EXPERIENCE ‼️ 1. The ability to follow your body’s natural instincts - this mama was clearly trying to push her body into a different position but couldn’t. She was being held down. Nothing about this says ‘natural’. While it might have been unmedicated, she was being pushed against her natural instincts. 2. Your environment is crucial - the ambiance you set, who’s in the room and how those people support you makes a huge difference to your birthing experience. I wish I could’ve helped calm this environment (if this is the type of thing she wanted). This starts BEFORE going into labor. 3. Oxytocin needs to be present in order to progress. Learning the ways to help oxytocin flow helps the body stay relaxed. When we are stressed, our bodies go into fight or flight which can be good when pushing but not from outside factors. When we know our rights and options, we can remain calm and advocate for that to be true because we are aware. If you’re still unsure and concerned about having a calm birth or even questioning if you’re capable of doing it, read and listen to the countless birth stories of the werking mamas I’ve worked with. To prepare properly so that you and your partner can be equipped to have a positive and peaceful birth experience, let’s hop on a free call together! Link is in my bio ❤️ #fyp #doula #naturalbirth
