Nice to meet ya!! “Broadway Cowboy” out everywhere #newmusic #songwriter #countrymusic
your dog who loves to chase things doesn’t need to be punished. they’re dogs, they’re just doing what dogs do!! Harvey went from the dog who everyone said “could never be controlled without an ecollar” to now, being the dog that everyone says “his prey drive must have never been that high to begin with”. and while it’s frustrating to see people make that switch up, it’s weirdly validating he’s made so much progress with positive reinforcement that people think he never had a problem to begin with. He went from not taking treats on walks once he saw a squirrel, to choosing me over squirrels 9x out of 10. (I don’t expect perfection from him) my best quick tips to help: 👉 in the beginning and for quite a while, ALWAYS have high value treats. hamburgers, hot dogs, cheese, anything your dog finds extra special over regular treats. 👉 even if your dog does react to the prey, use treat scatters in the grass to help them calm down afterwards. 👉 the best sign of progress is to notice how quickly your dog is able to calm down after seeing prey. 👉 setting up training scenarios where you can watch squirrels from a distance, reinforcing them for watching them. (And look into predation substitute training!) 👉 it’s okay to turn around sometimes!! if you’re training and an animal is where you’re trying to walk but you know your dog is going to lose it, just go the other way to avoid a big freak out. not forever, just for a while! there’s so much more I can say about this topic, and it’s something I’m so passionate about. if this video does well maybe I’ll make another video detailing some of our methods. 🤎 #DogTraining #dogtrainer
