Crazy diamond from jojos completely counters this. Instead of taking damage and “healing” crazy diamond reverses what happens to things, effectively removing any effects you previously felt. Cool❗️

I like the idea in some fiction spaces that healing magic is actually temporal in nature and thus is a commodity that takes decades to learn while also giving excessive strain to the caster

only thing is is that healing doesn't prevent aging...generally. it enhances the body's natural ability to heal; but it can only do that so many times so technically you're removing years off.

Reminds me of dungeon meshi but to a somewhat less extreme conditions. That being that raw healing will cause hurt to the person being healed and one of the characters being weary of the magic user

I actually addressed this in the book I'm writing. A guy who doesn't know about magic gets an open fracture healed and just screams and passes out.
