Any advice on how to sit with them in dysregulation without automatically disassociating? It’s automatic for me and my kids are starting to call me out on it.

"there's nothing fancy about the repair".....except their dysregulation makes me want to crawl out of my skin😂 Just sitting in it with them is the hardest thing for me!

What was this training? I’m a therapist and would love more training on this.

Can you give examples of this? Specifically, co-regulating the misattunement “without accomodating it”. I understand not escalating or trying to change it.

Also explains why my exhusband has no tolerance for the distress. His mother is a frantic “fixer” 😬

Any advice on how to handle separation anxiety at daycare drop off in the mornings? Like, am I supposed to just sit there and they’ll eventually calm down and let me leave? I feel so bad leaving!

What does it really mean to sit with them in it. If my toddler is having a meltdown, what do I do to be there for them in the moment?

This was communicated in a way where I can understand. And I agree, this would have helped me as a child. Now I can do this 1/3rd for my sons

I want to sit with my daughter so badwhen she’s in this fight/flight mode but she starts to hit and kick and gets more overstimulated and angry when I stay in the room with her. What can I do?

Yes! I was just thinking tonight about how there were so many times as a kid where I just needed someone to hug and sit with me. It would have made a world of difference.

My thought when I do this is “he has to learn to sit with discomfort” which is probably a thing I learned from you but I sit and hug him if he wants or sit next time him until he is ready.

Omg yay! I literally repeat “do less.” In my head when my toddler melts down. I just wait. Then I ask her to tell me her emotion as she’s calming down. That’s it.

Or seeing the parent having a distressing feeling and processing it? Sometimes I feel like my audhd upset happen too often. Trying to regulate in real time is hard.

My Audhd kiddo only wants space when distegulated, he gets more upset when I try to sit with him of offer comfort. I give him space, he regulates alone. Do you see that as a problem?

Yes. This makes so much sense! You have to be able to control your own emotions and they need to be taught how to. Love this!!

Does being attunded mean you’re wholly focused on the child? Or can you be doing something (like cleaning) while checking in/making eye contact? Sometimes I find my full focus makes it worse…
