Make sure when installing lifters that they spin freely in the bores. Flat tappet lifters spin on the camshaft

You are not concerned about all the metal debris in the oil and galleries I never had an engine last more than a pass. After it flattened a lobe you have to pull the engine down brotha

Initial Break-in is the most important part on a FT cam. Have installed many and no problem. Zinc and 2500-3k rpm for 20 minutes the instant you start it.

You need to make sure you’re using oil with zinc. I use diesel oil in all my flat taps motors

I know you said put 15w40 in with the zinc, I’m thinking maybe it’s not thin enough to flow through the lifters, maybe after break in use 5w40 with a little stabilizer and the tick might go away

I can confirm flat tappets are not the way to go. Probably about 3k on mine and the lift is just too aggressive eatin away at the lifters

Are those dual springs? If so you need to break the cam in with the inner spring removed .
